Biography Celia Birtwell
Celia Birtwell is a textile designer. Born in Salford, Lancashire, in 1941, she studied textile design in Manchester, where in 1959 she met the fashion designer Ossie Clark, whom she married in 1969.

Theirs was a marriage almost perfect style, and their work defined at the time. This collaboration began with a collection 1966 for the Quorum boutique in London, who shared with designer Alice Pollock. Birtwell worked at home designing textiles for Clark which would use its expertise in machining and understanding of form, with his knowledge of fabrics and textures to produce haute couture for the emergence culture of the 60s.
