Why were experiments performed on inmates of the death camps?
I’m talking about the death camps by the Nazis during WWII.
It’s a question about WHY they happened not what the experiments consisted of. I can’t find anything.
A lot of the tests were performed solely to find new ways to cure diseases and to test the limits of the human body.
My grandmother was about 16/17 when she had to go on a long trip through Germany in Winter during the war. She got serious frostbite and some soldiers stopped to help her and her friend and gave her a cream to treat her feet with and it seemed to help. Later she found out that this cream was developed in a concentration camp, and tested on prisoners. This is just one example though. Most medical tests performed were done so because the prisoners were seen as disposable and therefore if things went wrong, the testers just tried with the next ones until they got their results or aborted whatever it was they tested.
And then there were of course the insane people who just went with the old “What happens if I do this to someone?” and carried it out. I do believe if memory serves me right, that Dr. Josef Engele was one of the worst of them.
