I need advice on camping, water purifiers!?
What water purifier should I buy? I need buy a water purifier for use in camping (usually 1-2 weeks) in the Canadian wilderness. Water is not polluted, but sometimes muddy / cloudy. Generally 2 or 3 other people with me, so need to get about 10 liters per day. I am looking for some thing I have to buy once, if money is not a consideration: 1.) What brand and model would you suggest? Please include Details such as whether the chemicals are needed / pros and cons / What kind of filter you want to suggest, etc. … 2.) Are Katadyn PUR and the same brand? Can you even find replacement orders for PUR filters / purifiers? 3.) Do I need a purifier or just a filter for water drinking in the North Candian rivers, lakes where the pollutants would be the occasional motorboat (such as Algonquin)? Thank you …. PUR has been purchased by Katadyn that continue to produce award-winning and highly popular Hiker model, now the hiker Katadyn. The replacement filters still work on the old PUR hiker. I know because that's what I used exclusively for the last ten years and never felt the need for change, and right now, I have a new filter to replace my old hiker. Unless you're in a Third world where there is a chance of viruses in water, you do not need a scrubber. Here in the High Sierra just use filters and I would imagine that Canada would be just as clean.
