If you like to experience some local history while on your camping holidays, France is the ideal destination for you to visit. Not only it is filled with high-end campsites, it houses some of the memorials of the world's most moving and museums. The two world wars have been defining events of the 20th century, in both cases, France has been at the center of the conflict. The wars have left behind scars in France, but they have also left some fascinating historical sites as well.

Here are some highlights for you to see if you're a history buff who is Camping in France …

WWI

From 1914 to 1918, the French forces, German and British have been locked in a bloody stalemate on the battlefields of France, and during your holidays camping in France you can often visit many attractions in the area are reminded that this time.

Among the many cemeteries, Loreto and the British Memorial Etaples stand out. Lorette is the largest cemetery in France and contains 40,000 graves. The Etaples British Case, as its name suggests, is one of the main cemeteries of British soldiers. Both are places very important for those wishing to pay their respects.

The caves, near Arras were used for staff British Army, and have been preserved so impressive. The main fields of battle, as Flanders Field and Passchendaele were all near two major museums that recreate the experience of the trenches and have many historical artifacts. Finally, one of the most spectacular is the Vimy Ridge Memorial. Dedicated to Canadian soldiers who fought and died to secure Vimy Ridge, this imposing monument is one of the monuments most spectacular of the First World War in existence.

There are also numerous, fascinating and moving the first World War II Sites to see everything on a camping holiday in France.

The Landing Beaches are perhaps the most important of them, place when the Allies invaded France and began the liberation of Europe. More than 100,000 soldiers died in fierce fighting in Normandy, and now you can take guided tours of the beaches where battles were fought, visit the excellent D-Day Museum in Arromanches, or go to the German bunker converted approximately Audinghen which is now the Museum of the Atlantic Wall.

There are excellent museums to see Dunkirk (in memory the evacuation that took place there), and Calais (where the German navy was based). For a preview later in the Nazi war machine, you can also head over to The Blockhouse Eperlecques, the largest bunker built during the war and has been used as a launching point for rockets V2 feared that rained on London. Today, it was largely unchanged, and is a fascinating slice of history of the Second World War. Another base is also old V2 in Saint-Omer, called La Coupole.

If you go camping in the north of France, you are bound to close some of these fascinating historical sites, which make excellent day trips.
